This headline is not enough to explain how cool Tokio Hotel was in our interview

Please all together: * Schreeeeei * 😳 Why? We met no one less than the Boys of Tokio Hotel for you! And they traveled to the capital through the monsoon to talk to Bill, and Tom Kaulitz (29) about everything they wanted to know about the two most popular German boys. Insights into the new music, Deeptalk and melancholy to party nights with Paris Hilton and potato soup dates with Angela Merkel remained in our exclusive interview really nothing unanswered (even if I was a little warm in the middle of the two …).

Are you an hour 1 hardcore fan? And remember Bill‘s Smokey Eyes and Tom‘s dreadlocks? Gustav, and George adorned the wall behind your bed as a poster in teenage times? Then you are exactly right here. The hottest tea of the hottest band twins is now being spilled for you.
Ready? Set, Go! 🔥

Bill und Tom Kaulitz im exklusiven trèsCLICK-Talk

trèsCLICK: I was sweet 8 years old when I saw “Through the Monsoon” 2005 for the first time on VIVA on TV – and I know VERY exactly how cool I found the song even then! Can you even listen to yourself or is it hanging out of your ears? 😆

Bill: Haha, we really like to play it! Of course, now some notes lower than before. 😂 I was 12 or 13 when I recorded the song – and somehow it has always been there since then. If I hear it that way now, it feels like a different band. But I still love the song, the fans too, and playing it has always been a very special moment.

Tom: The only hurdle is to bring a common thread to the concert so that everything looks consistent. Of course, on the tour (more about that right now) we’ll be playing new tracks too, and combining that with “Through the Monsoon” is of course tricky.

Bill: On the other hand, a lot of artists play totally fancy, new versions of their old hits and that’s not cool at all. You simply want to hear the original as a fan! When you go to Britney’s concert, you do not want a funky dance remix of “Baby One More Time.”

TC: Do you sometimes look back to old band times and think “WTF, what did we just think ?!

Bill: Nope, I have to say: at the time it was always authentic. It was always what I wanted to do and I always felt it. We just grew up and tried each other, we were in puberty. Only our puberty has just been publicly documented, while it stayed with others at home in the photo album.

TC: Tokio Hotel is celebrating its 15th anniversary soon … what has happened to you humanely in this long time?

Tom: Phew, that’s an incredibly difficult question. I think the biggest change is just plain we’ve grown up. We will be 30 this year and started at 15. We had a life that was totally preferred. Many ask me where I can see myself professionally in 10 years, and I have to say that I am pretty close to retirement. Because we started so early. At least they think so, but we’ve been away from home for fifteen years, we did not have any, we were nonstop on the road.

Bill: And I think the biggest human change is that we’re dealing with everything differently now. With the career, with the public standing and the celebrity. We have found a different balance because we now have more distance and better understand ourselves. It used to be the only thing: we were young, famous, barely had friends and had to deal with them. There was nothing outside and a private life was barely possible, and by now we’ve totally fought for it, each one of us.

TC: You’re on a big tour from April, so exciting! There will be old and new songs. Can you spoil something about the latter? 😌

Bill: So in advance: We love change and the new feeling. I hate to be bored and always want to look new! And we never force that constant change. We do not sit down and say, “What song are we writing now so it sounds different from the others?” All new songs on the EP are very different. One that we shot yesterday …

Tom: … he’s one of the few I started writing on the guitar. I just took her to the studio and started right away.

Bill: He’s pretty old school, has a lot of old elements and is more in the Blues direction. Also completely new vocals with a huge range. He is really crazy. Yesterday on the set, everyone heard it for the first time and celebrated it extremely, hopped around the area and immediately had a catchy tune. Then we have a new one which is very electronic. With all the hard beats. All songs are very different.

TC: That sounds super exciting! Your most recent song “Melancholic Paradise” is very funky and disco-like (click here to stream). When I heard this for the first time, I really thought, “Krass, is this really Tokio Hotel?” Sounds like the perfect pre-party song. 🙌

Bill: Yes, the song is really special for us. So really “danceable”. I’ve always wanted to do such a song! I really like to go away, love this ritual of getting ready in the evening, and I wanted to create a track to turn on when you’re out of the shower on Friday evenings and you’re up to meeting your friends and partying.

TC: Bill, you have previously revealed that you are the more melancholy part of you two. You’ve lived in LA for almost 10 years now – what’s the most melancholic thing you associate with the city?

Bill: The distance. The size. If you go there and know no one, you can feel totally lonely. This is how I often feel: I often go out with a lot of people, but when I come back home and make the door, I’m alone again. And that’s how it goes, I think, millions of people out there.

TC: … Tom, how about you?

Tom: I would not describe myself as so melancholy. I’m fine at the moment anyway … 😉 When Bill and I wrote “Melancholic Paradise”, my motivation behind it was simply, as the verse “High on Life” says, just to say: we’re fine in this “Melancholic Paradise” , In a world that is pretty much fucked up on the whole.

TC: Speaking of “writing together”: Do you sometimes get in the way as bandmates and brothers? Scheppert’s too?

Bill: Absolutely! We argue often and we are also at other points in life, although in principle we are very similar – Tom, for example, marries soon, with me, however, the wedding is not even to be seen on the horizon. Of course, therefore, we look at some things from a different angle. Recently we wrote a song and I said to him at some point, “I can not watch you anymore, the vibe is too bad,” and then we pack up and go home.

Tom: Fortunately, as brothers we can argue in a different way. With us that is forgotten after two hours then again. Then we want to order food and everything is fine again. 😆

TC: A line from “Melancholic Paradise” says, “Our souls are needing peace and harmony.” What gives you “peace and harmony” when things are going really wrong?

Bill: My dog! I miss the total, he is just at the Dogsitter. He is only 5 months old and not quite housebroken, haha, but he gives me so much. Stitch is really like a little cuddly toy. He comes crawling up to bed in my neck and crawls in there! He can be cuddled properly. That’s the nicest thing ever.

TC: Oha, I hope he stays with me for a long time, mine does not do that anymore …

Bill: No, really now ?! Do not tell me that! Do not tell me that! 😭 He should stay forever my stuffed animal!

Tom: For me it’s my dog too. He’s 10 and tall, but he always sleeps in bed. Even under the blanket! He refuses to sleep on the blanket.

Bill: Whatever gives me peace and harmony is Christmas. Last year we had such a great Christmas: We flown the whole family into the States and it’s so nice when several days together are all in one place. And now, thanks to Tom, we have an extra large family. Incidentally, I am also called “Central Kaulitz” because I always have to get all the presents for Tom.

(Then a little fraternal battle of words broke out over Christmas 😂: Bill loves it, Tom feels stressed, but the dispute was soon forgotten, haha.)

TC: Let’s get to “Germany’s Next Top Model”, very important! You’ve contributed the theme song to the current season with “Melancholic Paradise”. You probably would not have thought that a couple of years ago, right? Whose idea was that?

Tom: Heidi’s idea! Of course she always gets along, if I make songs all day and produce …

Bill: … you have to imagine it like this: Tom is sitting here with his laptop, Heidi there with her. Of course, when everyone works on their stuff, they often hear the new songs from us.

Tom: And then she just asked me if she could have the song for the opener. We all thought he was a good fit. Of course I do not say no. 😜

TC: What is it like working together as a trio? Is a really cool constellation!

Bill: Nice! It’s just automatically totally harmonious, because we all come from the entertainment sector. And although we do something different, many things overlap. Everyone puts a lot of passion into the matter.

Tom: The things that we make up to three are also much more personal than is the case in “normal” professional relationships, because we all have such a close connection. It’s definitely fun to work like this.

TC: Are you also watching the GNTM season? Or was your target thus done? 😋

Tom: Of course I have already seen a lot, because she has shown me almost everything in advance. So I know more than anyone else, hehe. (Bill laughs)

Bill: I have not seen it yet. The two are always together in bed and look at that, because I can unfortunately put bad in between. 😂 But of course I’ll look. At that time like today. I even took part in the shooting – in 2012 I met Heidi. Unfortunately, Tom was not there, otherwise the two would have found it already great at that time.

Tom: All I can say is that the new season is very good. There will be some familiar faces from previous years again. Did you see the first episode?

TC: What a question, sure! ☝🏼Theme change: As you said, it’s been around for 15 years – and you still have real Die Hard fans, a real fan culture. How do you explain this blatant commitment?

Bill: I believe that we and the band still come from a time that does not exist anymore. In the past, listening to music was a lifestyle: you were either Hip Hopper, Punk, Rocker, Emo or whatever, anyway, you’ve always committed for a particular genre. It was so dressed, worn the merchandise … That was a statement and it has lived with skin and hair! That was the case with us. Our fans have only heard about Tokio Hotel, up and down, all day long. These fans of the first hour still exist today. And even if they are more open to other music today, they have an emotional attachment to us. Today you ask people, “What are you a fan of?” And they have to think for an hour.

Tom: That’s really nice and somehow a bit old music business. This is a huge compliment for us!

TC: Compliments hail it sure soon enough again: two and a half months until the big tour kick-off in Cologne on 30.4. (you can find all tour dates here)! How much are you happy?

Bill: Unbelievable! We always start with the preparations 6 months before. It’s a hell of a lot of work. Yesterday we had a big meeting with the designer for the costumes, that’s the most important thing for me. Also the stage set is already planned since last year, because with us there’s always a real show. People should say, “Wow!” We have always been under pressure.

Tom: I am also incredibly happy, but of course you are away from home for three months, which is not as easy as it used to be. So be on the road for five years at a time like in the past, that will not work anymore. 😄

TC: What would be the absolute dream headline you would like to read about after one of the concerts?

Bill: Phew, we already had some! A certain example … which band was the same, the live always find everyone so bad? (Tom helps out) Ah, Red Hot Chili Peppers! They played shortly before us, and a headline read: “Tokio Hotel shows the Peppers tonight how it’s done”. That was very nice! We rarely have torn tears, and if so, only from people who have already decided to write crap.

Tom: I’m always especially happy about music professionals writing about our concerts. Our show is extremely expensive musically. What we do is technically incredible. If someone recognizes that, it gives me a lot back.

Bill: Probably the nicest headline is “A show you’ll never forget”.

TC: I remember that and you get it after the Hamburg concert. 😜

Tom + Bill: We take your word for it! 😂

TC: If we are talking about unforgettable nights, which star would you like to drag two around the houses?

Bill: Uh, there are some. Definitely Britney Spears, rather the old than the new, haha, but I’d love to have a drink with him. Lindsay Lohan would be funny as well. Or Paris Hilton, with whom we were even celebrating recently, which is super funny. Rihanna would not be bad either.

Tom: I would like to eat a potato soup with Angela Merkel.

TC: Oh, wow! And then, chat about politics a bit?

Tom: Yes. I would love to do that. I’m really interested in how she is as a person, why she made what decisions. She has had so much pressure as Chancellor in recent years, and I would most like to eat the potato soup with her when she has already retired for two years and was able to drive down a bit. That would be the most interesting time, I think, then it could really open, and I would ask: “How was this and that really happened then?”

Bill: That would be my big dream too. The important thing is that people in Germany have to understand that things are not always bad and that you have to see the good. It’s normal in America to confess to its politicians, and everyone is always afraid to speak. Especially celebrities. I think you have to support that! They all do a job that I would not like to do, they have so much stress. They also deserve support.

TC: Then I hope that your dream will come true soon! Thank you for your time Guys, see you at 18.5. in the docks in Hamburg at the concert. 😉

What a brilliant talk, right? We would say that there is now no way around being a fan of this band. 🙌 And no way to get past the tour! Get your ticket here very quickly – we are sure it will be “a night you will never forget”. 😉
