Tokio Hotel Still Has The Best Fans In The World

Yesterday we were watching the MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam and we got all excited when we saw that Tokio Hotel was nominated for ‘Biggest Fans’, but because their last record and gigs already happened a few years ago, we didn’t have very high hopes for them to win the award this time. After all, they faced competition from hugely popular acts such as Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, One Direction and Lady Gaga! We know since the year that the band took part in our second ‘Fashion against AIDS’ campaign (2009) with their ‘Rock Hard F**K Safe’ T-shirts that Tokio Hotel has very loyal fans, but would they make it this time? In one word: YES. As Bill Kaulitz says in the ‘Thank you’ video that the band put on Facebook just after the win (he was there with his brother Tom; no idea where Georg and Gustav were, but I guess the twins are back in Los Angeles): “We just have the best fans in the world!” If the fans are so fierce now, expect them to be at least doubly so after the new record comes out later this year. We can’t wait!

Tokio Hotel Has Most Loyal Fans In The World??
Band Top EMA Fan List!

Tokio Hotel hasn’t released an album since 2009 yet they keep winning awards

Germany’s Tokio Hotel may have the most loyal fans in the world. The band currently sits atop MTV’s EMA Biggest Fan contest having starting in first place never leaving. The list is no slouch with the Top 5 from 15 making the final cut including Justin Bieber, One Direction, Lady Gaga and 30 Seconds To Mars(We don’t know what happened to Miley sadly?!?)

What makes this even more extraordinary is the band hasn’t released a new studio album since 2009 and they haven’t been touring regularly for the last 2 years.

Since their one of their last official performances at the MTV video Music Aid Japan in Tokyo, Bill, Tom and manager David Jost moved to Los Angeles and continue to live there.

Bill and Tom have taken on a number of self projects in the last couple of years including fashion events, an Audi commerical, a Reebok shoe endorsement deal and, most recently, the pair were jury members for the the 10th season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar.

We are curious how the dedicated army of Tokio Hotel fans manage to stay ahead of the global marketing machines currently churning for One Direction, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga? Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga currently reside in the Top 5 Twitter accounts with JB on top. These two don’t have fans, but rather a univeral consciousness surrounding their every movement.

There’s still lots of time left in the Biggest Fan Category. Until November 8, we will watch to see if the David-like army of Tokio Hotel can hold up against the Goliath global supers.

Your Favourite MTV EMA Performances

As we count down to the 2011 MTV EMA, we’re recalling some of the epic moments from past years’ award ceremonies. It’s pretty unbelievable how many megastars have graced the stage at the EMAs. We asked you on Twitter to tell us what your favourite EMA performance was, and apparently quite a lot of you have great memories of the show.

But although we received a wide range of responses, there was one undeniable hands-down majority answer (which astute Aliens may have already guessed from the above photo): It turns out you really, really liked Tokio Hotel’s 2007 performance of ‘Monsoon’. And seriously, how could you not be impressed by a band that can rock out during an indoor rainstorm? Not something you see every day, people!
