Heidi Klum Didn’t Think She’d Get Married Again: I Was “Shocked”

Heidi Klum ’s smitten with her fiancé Tom Kaulitz. The America’s Got Talent judge phoned into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, February 1, to celebrate her engagement and help promote her future hubby’s band Tokio Hotel’s new single “Melancholic Paradise.”

The supermodel, who was previously married to Seal and Rich Pipino, admitted that the proposal came as a total surprise.

“Is this a proud [fiancée] or what?,” Klum gushed on-air, sharing with Ryan the German rockstars’ new song. “I never thought I was going to say that again,” she added, after referring to herself as a fiancée. “I didn’t think that was going to happen, no. I’ve done it twice and it didn’t really work out for me that well so I was kind of shocked that this was going to happen again to me but I’m super excited.”

The musician proposed to Klum over the holidays, and made sure her four children, Leni, 14, Henry, 13, Jonah, 12, and Lou, 9, were involved.

“He did talk to my children before and they made this little plan on Christmas morning,” Klum recalled. “All four of my kids came in with a tray and there were flowers on there and a little box and they were very, very cute. … Henry, he’s 13, he was like, ‘Oh! What’s the box on the tray?’ And Lou, who is 9, was like, ‘Henry! Don’t be so obvious!’ So it kind of happened quick from then on. It was very sweet.”

Love is certainly in the air this holiday season, as another Hollywood couple has announced their engagement just hours before Christmas Day. According to Instagram, congratulations are in order for Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz, who just got engaged.

On Christmas Eve, Klum posted a black and white photo of her hand, now sporting a big diamond ring, wrapped around the Tokio Hotel musician’s smiling face, alongside the caption: “I SAID YES.” Despite going up during prime holiday time, the post has already amassed over 350,000 likes, as well as congratulatory comments from the likes of Rita Ora, Naomi Campbell, and Yolanda Hadid.

Klum, 45, and Kaulitz, 29, first started dating less than a year ago, when they were spotting kissing on the set of America’s Got Talent, according to People. The pair made their public debut as a couple just a few months later at the Cannes amfAR Gala. A source told People that the supermodel is “so in love” with the musician, so perhaps their engagement, despite the relative speediness, is not much of a surprise.

This will be Klum’s third marriage; in 1997, she married stylist Ric Pipino, whom she later divorced in 2002. Famously, she was married to singer Seal from 2005 to 2014. Together, they share three children together, sons Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel and Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, and daughter Lou Sulola Samuel (Klum also has an older daughter from a previous relationship with Italian business man Flavio Briatore). Kaulitz, who is best known for his career with German rock band Tokio Hotel, has never been married before.

“I SAID YES,” Klum wrote on Instagram

On Christmas Eve, Heidi Klum revealed she is engaged to musician Tom Kaulitz. The star made the exciting announcement on Instagram by sharing a picture of the dazzling diamond. She captioned the black and white photo, “I SAID YES.”

Heidi and Tom went public with their relationship in March 2018 at the amfAR Gala Cannes.

While there is a 17-year difference between the pair, Heidi says she barely notices. In July, she told InStyle, “My boyfriend is many years younger than me, and lots of people are questioning that and asking about it… That’s really the only time when age seems to be shoved in my face and I have to give an answer for it. I don’t really think about it that much otherwise.”

Heidi and Tom were seen at Disneyland with some of her kiddos the day before announcing her engagement to the Tokio Hotel rocker.

Heidi Klum on the Downside
of Dating Someone 17 Years Younger

Heidi Klum is one of those rare, near-mythical humans who still looks exactly the way she did two decades ago, flapping her angel wings up and down the Victoria’s Secret runway. But even supermodels grow up. And following her 45th birthday earlier this summer, Klum has adopted a decidedly refreshing perspective on aging.

“I don’t really think about getting older that much — I mean, know it’s happening to me, it’s happening to all of us,” she says. “But it’s not like I wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and say, ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ Lately, I’m being reminded more about my age by people other than myself.”

Klum, of course, is referencing the onslaught of media attention she’s received since she started dating 28-year-old Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz, who is, yes, 17 years her junior. The couple made their red carpet debut in May at the Cannes Film Festival’s amfAR Gala and have since documented their lazy Sundays and aww-inducing couple moments on Instagram.

“My boyfriend is many years younger than me, and lots of people are questioning that and asking about it,” she says. “That’s really the only time when age seems to be shoved in my face and I have to give an answer for it. I don’t really think about it that much otherwise. You have to just live a happy life without worrying too much about what people think because worrying is only going to give you more wrinkles.”
