For some time now the band is being followed by a group of persistent female fans. They call themselves The Afghans on Tour, they like to be veiled and have a generally unkind way of expressing their affection. SPIEGEL TV now managed to talk to the girls. Insights into perverted ways of worshipping – Sandra Hardinghaus and Alexandra Ringling with the details.

Reporter: Last friday in Hamburg: VIPs being chased.

Stalker 1: They were here! They parked over there!
Stalker 2: They’re not here anymore. Gone. I think they heard us coming.

Reporter: They search for a white SUV. Driver: Tom Kaulitz, guitarist of the band Tokio Hotel. The most popular rock stars of Germany climb the international charts and win over the hearts of countless girls. Many of the fans want to be close to their idols. On a DVD the boys speak about this excessive amount of fan adoration.

Tom: Our fans are particular. They don’t care where we are at, if its some kind of lame gala event or if its a concert they are always there for us. Its difficult to walk around on the streets like everyone else. If we do it, we disguise ourselves. I hide my hair and oh, I can’t tell everything, or else I’ll be noticed anyway.

Those five French girls appear to be the most radical fans. Their goal: Observing the musicians permanently.

Perrine: Whats so special about the Tokio Hotel world is that the fans want to see the musicians all the time and at all costs. The more you see them, the happier you are. Its a kind of competition to see them as often as possible. Some fans even count how often they have seen them

Reporter: The girls cover up their identities to stalk the band incognito. On the internet they call themselves The Afghans on Tour. Instead of fan love they promise the musicians theyll make their lives a nightmare. There are wild car chases on the Autobahn.

Stalker 1: Drive faster! Drive faster! Is that him?
Stalker 2: Yes, thats him. Keep close.
Stalker 1: Hes coming!

Reporter: And it is really Tom Kaulitz, this time in the black SUV. The girls even film a rough argument with the mother of the guitarist, using their cell phones.

Simone: Go away! Go away!
Stalkers: We’ll call the police! You are crazy! We’ll call the police!

The peak in the hunting scene came this week at a Hamburger Gas station. Annoyed by too much persistent fanlove, Tom supposedly threw a burning cigarette at one of the girls. The French girl reacts immediately: They pressed the cigarette out against the window of Tom’s car. The situation escalates.

Perrine: He came to me and hit me with his fist in my face. I fell on the ground and then he hit me again with his fist.

The girl gang hits back. They pressed charges against him for bodily harm. A lawyer gets hired.

Reporter: Can you tell me what happened that night at the gas station? What injuries do you have, through this beating?

Perrine: I have uhm..in my eye and I can’t hear anything anymore. There is buzzing in my ear all the time., and I have backpains.

For Tokio Hotel the punch is a big accident even though the French girls had already announced the escalation.

The next week will be a small nightmare. Warning, warning, we are not satisfied. We are getting impatient, do you understand us

An out of court settlement is not about to happen, and also the Tokio Hotel career stops. The consequences for Tokio Hotel is that They have moved around a lot lately to get away from the girls. They should have been in Los Angeles already to finish up their new album. That didn’t happen. They have said they could not leave Germany under these circumstances. ‘We don’t want to leave our mother alone. We want to protect her and be with her’.
They fear for their mother’s safety who is also getting threatened by these girls and that is a serious matter for the boys.

The management of the band is going to press charges against the girls for stalking.

Some of the stalker girls have already left the group.
Katherine and Melanie think that the things that have happened lately have gone too far.

Katherine: They have noticed the band gets scared when they wear their veils and can’t recognize them. It amuses the girls.
They even bought white masks that remind you of killers from the USA. They have started to wear the masks at their pursuits.
They saw it scares them and that delights them.

Friday they turned down an offer Tokio Hotel’s management made them. The condition was to leave the band alone.
That is something the girls won’t even consider.

I Repeat:
