Tokio Hotel are taking world by storm

Originally hailing from Germany and now finding solace in Los Angeles, the young rockers are celebrating the release of their fifth studio album, Kings of Suburbia. Peaking at No. 1 in 30 countries on iTunes, the disc is one of several examples of Tokio Hotel’s impact on the world of alternative rock.

Today (Feb. 20), Diffuser is beyond ecstatic to give fans a different taste of Tokio Hotel with a stripped down rendition of their insanely catchy track, “Girl Got a Gun.” Check it out in the video above.

Performing for the web series At: Guitar Center With Nic Harcourt, the guys in the band take a couple of minutes ahead of the gig to explain the background of the song, saying they wrote it and put it together rather quickly.

We were trying to find a good verse for some other song that didn’t even end up on Kings of Suburbia … and we came up with that hook … it just stuck in our head the whole day,” frontman Bill Kaulitz says.

As for the meaning behind the tune, he thinks it’s relatable for most people who hear it: “I was with a person that I shouldn’t have been with at the time … that’s what the song is about, a girl that has a gun, a person that’s dangerous for you.”

In our recent exclusive chat with Tokio Hotel, Bill’s brother, multi-instrumentalist Tom, told us that “Girl Got a Gun” was one of the hardest songs for him to finish, but also one of his favorites: “I’m so proud of this song because there are so many details that went into it.”
